aut disce aut discede!

Wondering what this title means in english?

A few months ago it was one of my favourite latin phrases, I even emailed it to my colleagues.

I'm sure if you have stood in front of a class of senior high school students you know that a few of them really don't want to be there. Okay, not unusual for some students I know, but then there's the type that don't want to be there and make life difficult for you. So, to them I quote:

aut disce, aut discede - EITHER LEARN OR LEAVE!

I have said to many parents whose children are failing, they aren't doomed. They just need to find their passion in life.. and from there everything will fall into place for them.

Sounds harsh, perhaps, but sometimes we have to realise that schools aren't always the best place for young people to excel in life. Consider Einstein for a moment. He failed school miserably but made such a monumental contribution to science.

Anything is possible.

XO
